Abstract
The purpose of this study is to test whether home-grown school feeding and school gardens can affect children’s dietary preferences and practices in Eswatini. This report presents the baseline data for this study, which were collected from intervention and control schools. These data show the status of key indicators before the implementation of the activities. The study will contribute towards understanding: 1. The impact of school garden program on children’s awareness of various vegetables and fruits, particularly TAVs. 2. The impact of school garden program on children’s knowledge, attitudes and practices of food and nutrition, including nutritional aspects. 3. The impact of school garden program on children’s preferences / attitudes towards eating vegetables and fruits. 4. The combined impact of home-grown school feeding and school garden programs on children’s intake of vegetables and fruits at school and at home.
