Abstract

The project "Regional Adaptability Evaluation of WorldVeg Germplasm in Korea" is being conducted under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Sciences (NIHHS) of the Rural Development Administration (RDA) in the Republic of Korea and the World Vegetable Center (WorldVeg). Through this MoU, NIHHS and WorldVeg have agreed to identify and implement joint projects aimed at developing the vegetable industry in Korea and on a global scale. This report presents the results of an evaluation of WorldVeg germplasm of chili pepper and Chinese cabbage grown at NIHHS and RDA, Korea. The germplasm was supplied by WorldVeg in Taiwan for non-commercial purposes, including testing, evaluation, and conservation of accession varieties, under a material transfer agreement with the World Vegetable Center Korea Office (WKO). It is anticipated that the information provided in this report will enhance the understanding of the genetic quality of WorldVeg germplasm resources and facilitate the development of new and improved vegetable varieties. This effort aims to address global challenges related to food security, sustainability, and climate change adaptation. The impact of the climate crisis on crop productivity underscores the need to develop high-performance varieties capable of withstanding various abiotic and biotic stresses while providing a rich supply of nutrients. Achieving this is essential for ensuring agricultural sustainability and improving human health. In this study, WorldVeg accessions, including 10 chili pepper and 15 Chinese cabbage accessions, were planted and cultivated alongside domestic commercial accessions, which served as controls for evaluating key horticultural traits.
