Title:
Tomato yellow top virus: its distribution, characteristics, and transmission by the aphid Macrosiphum euphorbiae (Thom.)
Publication date:
1961
Summary:
The spread of the virus is outlined and the present distribution in E. Australia described. It was transmitted by grafting. M. euphorbiae required a 90 min. feed (opt. 8 hr.) to acquire the virus and 30 min. (3 hr.) to inoculate helathy seedlings. Symptoms developed after 18-21 days. The virus is persistent as the aphids were infective for 10 days. It is suggested that the weed Solanum nigrum, which is susceptible, serves as an infection reservoir. [RAM 41:484]
