Summary
The dominant weeds under polyethylene film mulching in the red pepper upland were Digitaria sanguinalis, Mollugo stricta, Portulaca oleracea, and Cyperus microiria. Among those weeds, the most troublesome weed was Digitaria sanguinalis. Alachlor Ec, napropamide Wp, pendimethalin Ec, trifluralin Ec and metolachlor + prometryn Ec were effective for weed control but alachlor G and diphenamid Wp was tended to exhibit the lower weeding effect. The degree of phytotoxicity to alachlor Ec was higher in direct seeding but little or no injury was found in 10 true leaves. The higher the chemical concentrations, the severer the symptoms of phytotoxicity. It was possible to safely use alachlor Ec, napropamide Wp, pendimethalin Ec and trifluralin Ec under polyethylene film mulching in the red pepper upland if applied the rate of application tested at the transplanting time.
