Summary
A field experiment was carried out during Kharif season of 2008 and 2009 at the Student's Instructional Farm, Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur to find out the effect of varieties ('K-851', 'NDM-1' and 'HUM-12') and foliar spray of urea solutions (0 and 2%) at 40 days after sowing with seed rates (20, 25 and 30 kg seed ha-1) on performance of Greengram (Vigna radiata L.). Results reveals that Variety 'HUM-12' gave significantly higher plant height, number of trifoliate leaves plant-1, number of branches plant-1, dry matter accumulation plant-1, pod length, number of pods plant-1, number of grain pod-1, 1000-grain weight, grain yield, harvest index protein content, uptake and protein yield (kg ha-1) than 'K-851' and 'NDM-1' during experimental years. However, the application of foliar spray of urea (2% solution) at 40 days after sowing increased growth, yield attributing characters and grain yield (22%) as well as nutrient content and uptake by greengram over control. The application of 25 kg seed ha-1 significantly increased growth, yield attributing characters, grain yield, nutrient content and uptake by over 20 and 30 kg seed ha-1. On the basis of economics 'HUM-12' and application of foliar spray of urea (2% solution) at 40 days after sowing with 25 kg seed ha-1 was found most profitable.
