Summary
Studies were carried out in Peshawar and Malakand Divisions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan during the year 2007 to assess the prevalence of root and crown rot of pepper. Based on symptomatology, the disease was recorded on the crop on all the 33 sites surveyed. However, Phytophthora capsici was successfully isolated on Phytophthora elective medium (PARPH) from the root and crown parts of the 16 samples from the different sites. The disease was found to be highly catastrophic, and in some areas eliminated the crop before reaching maturity.
