Summary
Nodal explants from shoots of M. oleifera were cultured in Murashige and Skoog's (MS) medium supplemented with benzylaminopurine [benzyladenine] (BAP) at 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 or 2.5 mg/litre. The rate of shoot induction was evaluated. All explants induced shoots in the presence of 1.0 and 1.5 mg BAP/litre. Shoot production was greatest with 1.0 mg BAP/litre. The highest shoot multiplication rate was obtained in the 3rd subculture. The regenerated shoots were rooted in MS medium with or without NAA (0.05, 1.0 or 2.0), IBA (0.05, 1.0 or 2.0 mg/litre) and IAA (0.05, 2.0 or 1.0 mg/litre). The highest percentage of rooting was obtained in the MS medium without growth regulators. The rooted plantlets were hardened and successfully established in the soil.
