Summary
Rice seeds were treated with leaf extracts of Cymbopogan citrus and Ocimum sanctum and allowed to grow and then examined the activity of defense-related enzymes after exposure of fungus Rhizoctonia solani with control. The different enzyme activities were examined are Phenylalanine amino lyase (PAL), Catalase, Peroxidase, Polyphenol oxidase (PPO), Tyrosinase. In between these two plant species C. citrus had shown better result (2-4 fold increase in enzyme activities) than O. sanctum (2-3 fold increase in enzyme activities). Among all the prepared extracts, ethanolic leaf extracts (ELE) had shown better result (almost 1-2 fold) than aqueous leaf extracts (ALE) with respect to control (which was treated with only sterile distill water).
