Summary
Fluazifop-butyl, metolachlor, and sethoxydim were evaluated as post-planting applications for efficacy and phytotoxicity with twenty cultivars of Chinese cabbage in early and late season studies. All herbicides provided acceptable control of both broadleaf and grass weeds in the early season study. Visual evidence of reduction in crop growth was not apparent but yields were reduced with all herbicides in comparison to a hand weeded treatment in the late season test. Metolachlor gave excellent weed control but yields were lower than sethoxydim at the lower rate. Fluazifop-butyl at the low rate did not out-yield the unweeded check but all other treatments did, although, Chinese cabbage did appear to compete well with weeds. [AS]
