Summary
A variety comparison test was carried out both in the spring and fall seasons in 1983 for the AVRDC varieties of vegetable soybean, Houjaku, Yashida-1, AGS 188, Disoy, Vesoy, BP1 #4, and Ryokkoh, using Tainung No.205 (Tzuzunok) as the control. The objective of the test was to study whether central Taiwan is suitable for growing vegetable soybean in the fall season. The results are summarized as follows. 1) All varieties of vegetable soybean showed shorter in height in the fall crop than in the spring crop. However, the branch number, the number of effective pods, the effective pod weight, 100 grain weight, and the grain-pod weight ratio were all higher in the fall crop. 2) There were very significant positive correlation existing between the pod number and the effective pod number, or between the pod weight and the effective pod weight either in the spring or fall crop. However, the pod number and the 100 grain weight were negatively correlated in the fall crop. [AS]
