Summary
The pest fauna of chilli on the transplanted crop in Dharwad and certain other chilli growing areas of Karnataka was studied for the incidence and period of infestation during main crop seasons of 1978, 1979 and 1980. During the study 51 species of insects and two species of mites belonging to 27 families under 9 orders were encountered on Byadgi variety of chilli. Among these, 39 species including a species of mite, have been found new on this crop. Of the pests, Gonocephalum dorsogranosum Frm., Melanotus sp., Odontotermes obesus Rambur, Holotrichia serrata F., Heliothis armigera Hb., thrips and mites were of considerable importance. [AS]
