Summary
Results of the experiment conducted on determination of crop loss due to Polyphagotarsonemus latus Banks in chilli during rabi seasons for three consecutive years (1999 to 2002) at College Farm, Gujarat Agricultural University, Navsari revealed the crop loss in terms of green chilli production (cv. G-4) due to the mite infestation alone to be 27.78 per cent of worth Rs. 2954/- per hectare under South Gujarat condition which can be avoided following alternate spray of dicofol 0.04 and wettable sulphur 0.25 per cent at 15 days interval. In protected condition the incidence of mite (0.53 to 0.69/leaf), leaf curl plants (3.31 to 5.62%) and intensity of leaf curling (5.21 to 8.49%) were considerably low to that of the plants under unprotected condition where the corresponding values were 1.98 to 2.48,9.55 to 13.25 and 11.66 to 22.69, respectively. Of the 21 chilli varieties / genotypes screened against yellow mite, Polyphagotarsonemus latus (Banks) during three consecutive rabi seasons at College Farm, Gujarat Agricultural University, Navsari, jwala, RHRC Errect and AEG-77 were found promising recording 5.60 to 9.49 mites /15 leaves ,5.76 to 7.47 per cent leaf curl plant with 15.61 to 21 .78 per cent intensity of leaf curling within damage plant, whereas G-4 and PBS 86 -1 were found to be extremely susceptible recording 33.96 to 35.62 mites /15 leaves, 29.04 to 39.60 per cent leaf curl plant with 45.14 to 50.92 per cent intensity of leaf curling within damage plant.
