Summary
Young segments of flower pedicels of the cvs Super Yellow and Bravo rapidly generated high numbers of adventitious shoots in vitro. The influence of the explant-length, growth regulators, sugar, vitamins and minerals on adventitious shoot formation of both cvs was examined. Eleven cvs representing several important cv. groups produced adventitious shoots on the same basic medium. Small shoots were separated and transferred to different media in vivo or in vitro for the initiation of adventitious roots and the consequent production of plantlets. The significance of this method for vegetative propagation, storage and mutation breeding is discussed.
