Summary
To study the performance of mung bean lines, an experiment was conducted in Uttar Pradesh, India, from July to November 2003. Sixteen genotypes including two controls (COGG-2, Pusa-9531, Barai Jaisal, Bankura local, T1, Pusa-108, Oum-11-5, Jhaun mung, V.rad A-43, Pusa-9071, V.rad A-4 (BR-3), V.rad 4441-D1, WGG-37, ORM-1, NP-28, BSN-1 5/4 (dull), T-44 and Jyoti) were tested for yield and other agronomic traits in a randomized block design with three replications. The lines WGG-37, ORM-1 and COGG-2 recorded the highest yields, i.e. 970.83 kg/ha, 950.00 kg/ha and 845.83 kg/ha, respectively. Most of the lines exhibited improved seed size (74-79 g) compared with the controls (60-71 g). A significant difference in pods per plant and grain yield was observed.
