Summary
Sojin, a new soyabean cultivar, was developed at the National Crop Experiment Station, RDA, Korea Republic, in 2003. The cross Danyeopkong x S193001, which was introduced from USA, was made during the 1993 summer season. After pedigree nursery from F2 to F5, the breeding line SS93101-40-2-2 was selected for plant type and seed quality and evaluated in yield trials from 1998 to 2000 at the National Crop Experiment Station, Suwon. Regional yield trials for this line, designated as Suwon 220, were performed from 2001 to 2003 over five locations. Sojin has determinate growth habit, purple flower, grey pubescence, yellow testa and light brown hilum. The leaflet shape is lanceolate, and plant height is shorter than that of Pungsannamulkong. It is moderately resistant to soybean mosaic virus and seed infection diseases, including purple seed stain, mottling and pod and stem blight [Diaporthe phaseolorum var. sojae]. The seed size of this cultivar is 9.7 g per 100 seeds and this cultivar has spherical seed shape. The average yield was 2.54 t/ha which was higher than the control cultivar Pungsannamulkong (2.45 MT/ha) in the regional adaptation and yield trials at three locations for three years (2001-03).
