Summary
There is a great confusion involved in taxonomy of Brassica. One vernacular name may represent several things and the same thing may have several names. In an attempt to solve the problem, the author characterized various species of Brassica, by conducting several studies on Brassica seeds. Chromosome studies, seed-coats observation the chemistry of Brassica seeds were the basis for the identification of botanical species. Detail studies were done on every possible cultivar obtained. Seeds were classified. Each species had a description and a picture for illustration. The plants discussed were those of Brassica and Sinapis, comprising the coleworts and the mustards. All were classified as Gentes Herbarum. [TW]
