Summary
Tangerine Dream, a new pepper (Capsicum annuum) cultivar released by the Agricultural Research Service of the US Department of Agriculture (Maryland, USA), was derived from an initial cross between the sweet hybrid bell pepper cultivar Cadice and the open-pollinated sweet squash- type pepper cultivar Tennessee Cheese. Tangerine Dream is a diploid (2n=2x=24) herbaceous annual with fibrous roots, lanceolate, dark green leaves with an apiculate tip, glabrous and glossy stems, self-compatible, hermaphroditic, pentamerous, and hypogynous flowers. Fruits are produced in upright clusters of 3-4 fruits per cluster, and are green when immature and orange-red when mature. Cultural requirements of Tangerine Dream are mentioned. This cultivar affords growers a new crop to add to their bedding and landscape plant assortment and is an ideal choice as an edible landscape ornamental.
