Summary
A laboratory experiment was conducted to study the effect of different levels (0, 1, 2, 4 and 8 pairs) of C. chinensis infestation on seed deterioration of pigeon pea (cv. UPAS 120) and green gram (cv. K 851) under ambient conditions (27?? temperature and 84?0% relative humidity). The results indicated that in both pigeon pea and green gram the level of bruchid infestation was directly proportional to the population count and per cent seed infestation but inversely proportional to the germination per cent. Mycoflora (Aspergillus niger, A. flavus, Fusarium sp. and Curvularia sp.) infection was noted in all the treatments, but at higher level of infestation high bacterial infection suppressed the fungal invasion.
