Summary
In field experiments at the National Horticultural Research Institute, Ibadan, Nigeria (3?54' E, 7?0' N, 213 m altitude) at 2 sites, during the early rainy season of 1995, the leafy vegetable, S. macrocarpon cv. Igbagba, was given 0, 40, 80 or 120 kg NPK (15:15:15) fertilizer/ha. The optimal NPK rate was attained at 80 kg/ha for plant height, leaf area and fresh shoot weight, which corresponded to 13.7 cm/plant, 1320.8 cm2 and 15.3 t/ha, respectively. Returns were highest with the 80 kg NPK/ha treatment followed by the 40 kg/ha treatment.
