Summary
During an inspection in fields where the medicinal plants Mentha arvensis subsp. haplocalyx var. piperascens and Hyoscyamus muticus are grown in Lucknow, Himachal Pradesh, India, 5 species of coccinellids were found associated with Aphis affinis for the first time. These were Coccinella septempunctata, Coccinella transversalis, Cheilomenes sexmaculata, Brumoides suturalis and Propylea dissecta. Among these, C. sexmaculata, C. transversalis and B. suturalis were abundant in the mint field, whereas C. septempunctata and Cheilomenes sexmaculata were found preying on Myzus persicae in H. muticus. A great increase in the mean number of the various life stages of Coccinella septempunctata indicated the suitability of this coccinellid as a biocontrol agent for M. persicae in H. muticus.
