Lagenaria siceraria fruits (cv. Samrat) were packed in polyethylene bags, corrugated fibreboard (CFB) boxes, wooden boxes, polyethylene bags + CFB boxes, or polyethylene bags + wooden boxes and stored at room temperature (26.16-29.80oC and 53.96-68.35% RH) or in a low-cost easily constructed cool chamber (20.16-21.18oC and 90.25-94.50% RH). Physiological loss in weight (PLW) and rotting percentage of fruits increased as storage duration increased regardless of packing material and storage conditions. Total soluble solids and total sugar content increased and subsequently decreased during storage under both storage conditions irrespective of packing material. Control (non-packed) fruits had a shelf life of barely 10 days at room temperature; however, the fruits could be stored for up to 18 days when packed in polyethylene bags (100 gauge and 2% vents) + CFB boxes. Fruits packed in polyethylene bags + CFB boxes and stored in a cool chamber had the longest storage life (28 days).
