Abstract

In a field experiment in 1991-93 at Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India, kharif rice cv. Tella Hamsa was followed by rabi sunflowers cv. APSH-1 and summer greengram [Vigna radiata] cv. LGG 127. Rice and sunflowers were each given 0, 30 or 60 kg P/ha. Number of tillers and panicles/m2, filled grains/panicle, test weight and grain yield of rice increased with increasing P rate. Capitulum diameter, filled seeds/capitulum, test weight and seed yield of sunflowers increased with increasing direct and residual rates of P, while oil content only increased with direct application. Test weight and yield of greengram increased with increasing residual kharif and rabi P rates, while number of pods/plant and seeds/pod increased only with rabi P. Rice equivalent yield was highest with 60 kg P applied to both rice and sunflowers, but was not significantly different from application of 60 kg P to rice and 30 kg to sunflowers.
