Summary
The relationship between phyllotaxis and the position of the flower cluster (truss) in tomatoes (cultivars Coco, Pepe, House Momotaro and Momotaro T-93) was investigated. All cultivars showed relatively regular phyllotaxis of 3/8 based on the orthostichy system. In some cases, House Momotaro and Momotaro T-93 showed a phyllotaxis close to 2/5. Sinistral and dextral phyllotaxis appeared almost evenly in all cultivars. Coco and Pepe had 7-1 leaves under the first truss, whereas House Momotaro and Momotaro T-93 had 9-12 leaves under the first truss. In Coco and Pepe plants with 8 or 9 leaves, the percentage number of leaves growing in the same direction as the first truss are tabulated.
