Summary
Effect of the nature of the carbohydrate in the diet on cholesterol lowering action of fiber from blackgram has been studied in rats fed high-fat-cholesterol diet, using glucose, sucrose and corn starch. The cholesterol lowering action of fiber is maximum in rats fed corn starch and minimum in those fed sucrose. Concentration of bile acids in the liver and fecal excretion of neutral sterols and bile acids are also highest in rats fed corn starch and fiber and lowest in those fed sucrose and fiber. [AS]
