Summary
Genetic studies were conducted for four nodule enzymes of mungbean (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek) and yardlong bean (V. unguiculata L. Walp.) namely: glutamine synthetase (GS), glutamate synthase (GOGAT), glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC). Half-diallel analysis gave significant test for GCA and SCA effects for nodule GS and PEPC activities in mungbean and yardlong bean. Mungbean and yardlong bean genotype which are best combiners for nodule enzyme activities were identified. The implications of the results obtained in the above studies in breeding for nitrogen fixation were discussed.
