Summary
This review suggests that to prolong the storage life and to minimize the storage losses owing to desiccation, rotting, sprouting, and respiration, onion bulbs should be stored at low temperature (<15 C) with low relative humidity (50-70 percent). The smaller size of bulbs, their harvesting at optimum stage, the application of MH before 10 to 20 days of harvesting and a post-harvest treatment of benomyl or MH are the other factors which decrease storage losses and prolong storage life of onions. The effect of curing practices/methods on the stroage of onion bulbs needs further research.[AS]
