Summary
Though India ranks first in acreage of onion, the productivity is very low compared to other countries. One of the major factor responsible for this low production is attack of diseases and pests. Purple blotch and stemphylium blight are two major diseases causing serious losses to bulb crop. In order to find out the effective control measures of both the diseases with newer fungicides, the studies were undertaken at National Horticultural Research Development Foundation, Regional Research Station, Karnal during kharif, 1993, 1994 and 1995. Three sprays of each rovral, aliette, chlorothalonil, ridomil, kitazin and benomyl and four sprays of mancozeb (check) were given after disease appearance. Three years studies revealed that 3 sprays of chlorothalonil (0.2 percent) or rovral (0.25 percent) were found alternatives for controlling both purple blotch and stemphylium blight disease.[AS]
