Summary
In order to improve the chemical control of diamondback moth (DBM), Plutella xylostella L., a study was carried out in 1987/1988 to investigate the status of DBM resistance to some incecticides commonly used by the growers at Lembang. The Lembang strain of DBM has developed resistance to some organophosphorous and synthetic pyrethroid compunds. Levels of resistance to acephate, triazophos and decamethrin were 172-fold, 31-fold and 267-fold respectively, compared to permethrin. Indication of a slight cross resistance was also shown by progenofos, prothiophos, fenvalerate and cypermethrin. Profenofos, prothiophos, permethrin, chlorfluazuron, and telflubenzuron are still effective against P. xylostella. No resistance to the latter three insecticides is detected in the Lemband strain of P. xylostella. Recommendations are suggested regarding the efforts to overcome and to retard insecticide resistance in P. xylostella. [AS]
