Summary
A high degree of resistance to synthetic pyrethroids has been detected in the field populations of diamondback moth collected from different parts of India. The Panipat population of DBM was highly resistant to cypermethrin (x 144.9) and fenvalerate (x 143.2) and to a lower level to deltamethrin (x 96.0), whereas, Ranchi and Jaunpur populations showed high degree of resistance to fenvalerate (x 178.0 and x 80.23), and deltamethrin (x 135.88 and x 99.14) and a low resistance to cypermethrin (x 52.30 and 40.69). Delhi population showed high resistance to deltamethrin (x 191.76) and relatively lower to cypermethrin (x 68.98) and fenvalerate (x 43.37). Bangalore population also showed high degree of resistance to deltamethrin (x 115.52). A very high degree of quinalphos resistance was detected in all the populations tested. The resistance to organophosphate, thus indicated the possibility of developemtn of cross resistance to synthetic pyrethroids in this species. [AS]
