Summary
Based on shortage of cucumber varieties for special use, a new cucumber Fl hybrid Liicui was developed by crossing P66 as female with Z38 as male. Female P66 is an inbred lin:e selected from mutating Hua' nan-type cucumber variety No. 002261 using low-energy ion beams. Male is also an inbred line developed from an European variety Netherlands No. 121. Liicui is suitable for protected spring and autumn cultivation, and open field spring and summer cultivation in Huanghuai region. The fruit is stick-like,spineless,uniform, even deep green and tasty. It is about 19 cm long(about 15 cm for winter season) and 2.2 cm wide with average weight of 100-120 g. It has a small cavity less than 1.1 cm. The fruit has 11.3 mg/lOO g vitamin C, 1.76% soluble sugar, and 3.54% soluble solids. It produces over 85% marketable fruits.
