Summary
Three methods of threshing soybean viz. hand shelling, stick beating and threshing by soybean thresher at 300, 400 and 500 rpm were tried. Hand shelling maintained the maximum viability and vigour during both the years in storage. Threshing at 500 rpm had the highest mechanical damage resulting in lower percentage of healthy seeds. Seeds obtained after threshing at 400 and 500 rpm speed showed relatively greater loss in viability and vigour in storage during both the years and under accelerated ageing test during 1977. Loss in viability in the seed lots obtained from stick beating and at 300 rpm by soybean thresher remained at par but gave significantly lower values than hand shelled seeds.[AS]
