Title
Onion storage in Bangladesh
Publication Date
1992
Call Number
A:PS
Summary
During 8 months of storage, onions lose about 50% of their weight under Bangladesh conditions. Storage is done on raised bamboo platforms, directly on solid floors or in jute bags. The growing and harvesting season is short, due to the long wet season. Storage studies in Bangladesh are reviewed. Some cultivars (Taherpuri, Kalasnagari and Zhitka) have superior storage performance, attributable to their non-splitting habit. Investment in storage structures is recommended to improve the onion storage situation in Bangladesh. [AS]
