Title
Interspecific hybridization and identification of hybrid in Capsicum
Publication Date
2007
Call Number

Summary
Three hybrid plants from the cross Capsicum baccatum x C. chinense (Hbc) and seven hybrid plants of Capsicum annuum x C. chinense were obtained through reciprocal interspecific hybridizations among 5 cultivated species: C. annuum, C. chinense, C. frutescens, C. baccatum and C. pubescens. Except for Hac-7, which exhibited virus-like symptoms, all the other hybrid plants grew normally. The pollen stainability percentages of Hac and Hbc were 13. 9 and 23. 8%, respectively, and were significantly lower than those of their corresponding parents. The pollen stainability percentage, morphological characters and band patterns of isoenzyme (peroxidase) in the hybrid plants were identical within each combination. The nature of the hybrid was confirmed by morphological characteristics and isoenzyme analysis.
