Summary
In this study of cassava production in Nigeria, the main production variables examined are capital, hired labour, family labour, and fertilizers. Costs of production are set against profits. Results show the average costs of producing 1 ha of cassava to be N10 343.99. The total return was valued at N45 165.57, with an average profit of N34 821.58. Labour and fertilizers are the crucial variables in regard to productivity per ha. It is concluded that cassava production is profitable, and comparable to other schemes designed to employ school leavers and the unemployed.
