Summary
Varieties of cabbage, Chinese cabbage, cauliflower, and pechay are described. F1 Tropicana, Chang Puh Early are the all season Chinese cabbage cultivars, whereas New Gold Wave and F1 no. 13 are grown only in cool seasons. Liming adjusts soil pH to 6-6.8 when applied just 3-4 weeking before planting. Fertilizer application is required before planting, at beeding, or furrowing. Head rot of cabbage, blackleg, and alternaria blight are the major diseases. Common insect pests such as diamondback moth, cutworms, cabbage webworms, and their control measurements are also discussed. [TW]
