Summary
A pot culture experiment was conducted during 1997 and 1998 to compare the performance of S-containing and non-containing P fertilizers on chilli (C. annuum cv. Surajmukhi) grown on acid Alfisol. Mussoorie rock phosphate (MRP) in combination with 37.5 ppm S, and single superphosphate (SSP) in combination with 12.5 ppm S were superior in terms of dry chilli weight and ratoon yield. The effect of the fertilizers on the number of chilli was significant only in 1997. MRP + 37.5 ppm S and SSP + 12.5 ppm S resulted in the highest number of chillies per 20 kg weight.
