Title
Onion breeding for higher solids. I. Genetic variation, heritability and stability
Publication Date
1986
Call Number
SB339.O5REP-0163
Summary
The total soluble solids of expressed juice of onion genotypes across seasons and years showed high genetic variability and genetic advance. The genotype x environment interactions were highly significant. The genotypes - Junagadh White and Junagadh Red were found to be stable genotypes for favourable environments while those with b less than 1.0 and average TSS greater than general mean were (Bellary Red and Talagi Light Red) stable in poor environments. The active accumulation of TSS in bulbs was upto 60th day of growth irrespective of genotypes and seasons. An appropriate breeding method for high TSS in onion has been suggested. [AS]
