Summary
In an experiment conducted during kharif 2000/01 and 2001/02, at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, th destructive yellow mosaic disease of mungbean (Vigna radiata), caused by mungbean yellow mosaic virus, was successfully controlled by the application of the aqueous root extract of Boerhaavia diffusa [Boerhavia diffusa]. Treatments were administered weekly, as foliar sprays, at a concentration of 10%, commencing from the seedling stage. Six sprays of B. diffusa root extract were found most effective, as it considerably delayed symptom appearance, suppressed symptom severity and decreased disease incidence by 80-90%. This treatment also increased root nodulation, plant height, primary and secondary branches, pod formation and grain yield.
