Abstract

[1] History of the World Vegetable Center linked to Korea as one of the member countries at its establishment. [2] Under the current situation of climate change, the conservation of vegetable germplasm is important for preparing building blocks to generate new cultivars, which can be adapted into the future climate. This is also associated with the resilient life of humans through the balanced diet/nutrient uptake. ◎ Requiring active steps for consolidating collections of wild species, due to increased likelihood of extinction for narrowly adapted and endemic species. ◎ Demanding on germplasm in genebanks for adapting agriculture to climate change and also for the necessity to screen different characters. ◎ Increased demand on international efforts to facilitate access to more genetic resource materials due to increases in interdependency brought about by shifts in climate zones globally - encouraging Korean seed companies and research institutes/centers to use the WorldVeg accessions.
