This guide describes a more efficient way of reliably growing healthier seedlings using sterilized artificial media, plastic seedling trays and fertigation. This requires different skills and equipment than traditional seedling production, but results in stronger, healthier plants that farmers prefer to get their commercial crops off to a good start. The guide was prepared as the output of a writeshop organized in Bengaluru from 22 to 24 May 2017 as a part of World Vegetable Center (WorldVeg) activities for the GIZ project ’Technical partnership to support the Green Innovation Centre for the agriculture and food sector, India-Tomato value chain’.
