Summary
The role of peroxisome metabolism in higher plants is reviewed with reference to peroxisome respiration, peroxide detoxification, oxidases, purine catabolism, glyoxylate metabolism, gluconeogenesis and fatty acid beta-oxidation in mitochondria and peroxisomes. Data are tabulated on the specific activities of several beta-oxidation enzymes in glyoxisomes of Ricinus communis, cotton and sunflowers, and in peroxisomes from non-fatty tissues of Helianthus tuberosus, peas Vigna radiata, maize and spinach.
