Summary
In 1983 the USA produced 1,595,000,000 bushels of soybean from 61,400,000 acres. Of the total production 121.84 million bushels were lost to diseases. The loss due to diseases is valued at 975 million dollars. Florida had the highest loss due to disease. Major losses were due to foliar and stem disease (36.6%), nematods (29%) and root and stem rot (25.3%). [SS]
