Summary
Three sets of studies were performed to study the effects of climatic conditions as well as production techniques on seed yield and its components together with biological responses of seed plants, in both open-pollinated and hybrid seeds. The first set of studies involved open-pollinated seed production. The second set of studies which involved investigations on hybrid seed production consisted of three experiments designed to study the influence of climatic conditions including production techniques on the degree of self-incompatibility and seed yield through flowering synchronization in addition to the evaluation of the hybrid performance. The third set of studies was on the maintenance and increase of inbred lines. This study was designed to search for applicable techniques in keeping inbred lines ready for use or in multiplying the inbred lines for satisfactory seeds production. [AS/THH]
