Summary
An investigation was carried out on the continuous production of cauliflower from autumn to spring (September 99-March 2000) in Spain using the semi-early cultivars Fargo, Sirente, Kimball and Tenere. The time that the plantlets remained in the nursery varied from 35 to 65 days. The longest crop cycle occurred with the mid-November planting, whereas the shortest cycle corresponded to March planting. The time elapsing between transplanting and curd initiation, and between initiation and harvest varied with the time of planting. The lowest coefficient of variation for calculating the heat requirements in each of the above periods was obtained using an upper threshold temperature. The harvesting period was shortest in the latest cycle. The weight and quality of the curd suggest that it is possible to establish a calendar for cauliflower throughout the production period in Spain.
