Summary
Breakage susceptibilities of commercial soybeans determined with a model CK2 Stein breakage tester were correlated highly with those obtained with a grain accelerator that simulates operation of a grain elevator. A running time of only 1 min will differentiate between sound and breakage-prone samples. Breakage susceptibility of 50% of 61 commercial soybean samples exceeded 12%. Breakage susceptibility of a mixture of soybeans can be estimated from the proportions and breakage susceptibilities of the components of the mixture by using a linear relationship. [AS]
