Summary
Glutamine-2-oxo-glutarate aminotransferase (GOGAT) or glutamate synthase is generally assayed in terms of the disappearance of NAD(P)H from the assay medium. We describe a new technique which allows colorimetric measurement of the enzyme activity in cell-free extracts and whole tissue of Vigna mungo leaves in terms of disappearance of the substarate ( alpha-ketoglutarate). The technique is offered as an alternative, more convenient method for assay of GOGAT. This also eliminates the use of more sophisticated ultraviolet range instrumentation required for measurement of NAD(PH). [AS]
