Abstract

Among the several Lycopersicon species tested, accessions EC 66003(L.glandulosum);LA 386,LA 1777,PI 390658,PI 390659(L.hirsutum);PI 127830,PI 127831 and CMV Sel.INRA(L.peruianum) were resistant to TLCV. The other Lycopersicon species expressed mild to moderate reactions against TLCV. The F1 hybrids viz.,F1 Tyking,F1 Fiona and F2 Fiona were found to be resistant, all other tomato hybirds/cultivars were highly susceptible. The disease spreads rapidly in the susciptible cultivars and affects the plants at an early stage, leading to economic yield losses, whereas in resistant species and hybrids the symptoms appear at later stages and spread slowly. There were very few or no whiteflies recorded on resistant lines PI 390658,PI 390659,LA 1777 and PI 127830,whereas on one resistant line CMV Sel.INRA higher number of whiteflies was recorded and survived up to 11 days. Whiteflies survived up to 17-24 days on susceptible lines Arka Vikas and ArkaSourabh. [AS]
